Inappropriate Handclap – doing it for all the right reasons

“For many years there has been a musical force determined to make Worthing as sunny as its tourist propaganda.

Where others said the town was dead this raver, soulboy, casual collective said “Hell No!”, rather than take the easy route and seek thrills ten miles to the east, this lot decided they wanted to do something different.

Led by local DJ and mischief maker Norman Murchie, they gathered like-mined souls around them and put on events that combine the wild zest of a festival with double helpings of funk, a soulful gumbo that as Part Gilles Peterson, part Jimmy Cliff, part Andrew Weatherall, part Greg Wilson and part West sussex’s answer to the Paradise Garage all in a secret seafront cafe.

Girls dance, boys dance, perspiration flies and the floor shakes whenever this crew fly their flag.

Once a more traditional soul night known as Shake Your Tailfeather they blossomed in 2012 into Inappropriate Handclap and the world has never been the same since.

As they often say: “leave your worries at the door and wear a smile”
